PLC Oct. 21, 2011

The PLC team met and analyzed Mastery Check 2:

7thGrade

  • 1.3.3 Word Structure 93% on track for SMART goals of 91.9%

  • Lowest indicators 1.4.6 text structure and 1.4.7 compare/contrast

These are consistently the lowest indicators so they will be re-taught and re-tested

in later mastery checks.

  • These lowest indicators will be re-taught during Homebase and student will have an

opportunity to re-test.

  • ELL students will also have an opportunity for learning during the ELL night Nov. 9

8thGrade

  • Students scored on an average much lower than expected on indicator 1.3.3

Re-teaching of those affixes and roots need to be done.

  • Indicators 1.4.9 Summarizing and 1.4.11 Author’s purpose average was 71%

  • These lowest indicators will be re-taught during Homebase and student will have an

opportunity to re-test.

  • ELL students will also have an opportunity for learning during the ELL night Nov. 9

Including open-ended questions on a test is a learning experience for both teachers and students. We went back and re-wrote the open ended response for both MC1 & MC2 and then

wrote the one for MC3. Mastery Check 2 was the first time we were able to score the students’ work. This process also gave us information on how to teach students so they are better able to answer the question in the format that we expect.

Teachers were given training on how to export information from filemaker to an EXCEL

spreadsheet. This spreadsheet is used to help teacher select students who need re-teaching in Homebase and to monitor student learning.

7thgrade teachers are concerned with the large numbers of students in classes, large group of special education students, immaturity of students plus their concrete thinking.
